1

Choose the video

Check names and terms, and change any word to suit your viewers.

5

Pick a caption style and make the video with French subtitles drawn in, or download the SRT for YouTube, VLC or an editor.

French subtitles for viewers in France, Canada and Africa

French is read across France, Belgium, Switzerland, Quebec and much of West and North Africa. French subtitles on an English video, course or Reel let all of them follow it, and drawn-in captions work on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts.

It also helps with a lecture, an interview or a family video that someone who reads French more easily needs to follow.

How the translation is made

First the video's own subtitles are written: in Accurate mode (the default) your browser takes the audio out of the video and sends only that audio to be transcribed by Whisper large-v3-turbo, with each line's timing. Nothing is kept. Choose On this device and the speech is recognised in your browser instead.

Then the subtitle lines, and only their text, are translated by an AI language model, a whole video at a time so each line is translated with the lines around it in mind. Every line keeps its timing, so the translated subtitles stay in sync. The text isn't stored.

The video itself never leaves your device: the subtitles are drawn onto it in your browser, or you download them as an SRT or VTT file.

Features

From any language

English most often, but Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi or any of 99 spoken languages can be translated into French.

Accents in every caption style

The caption fonts include accented letters, so the drawn-in subtitles show every é, ñ, ç and ã as they should.

Subtitles here, dubbing too

The speech is translated into subtitles you can read, timed to the voice, and the original voice stays as it is. To hear it spoken in the new language, use AI Dubbing.

Edit before you download

AI translation can get a name or an idiom wrong. Every line can be fixed before you make the video or download the file.

Your video stays private

Only the audio is sent to be transcribed and only the text to be translated; neither is kept. The video never leaves your device.

Free, no sign-up

No account, no watermark. Free with fair use: a day's translations cover about 15 ten-minute videos.

Frequently asked questions

How do I translate an English video to French?

Choose the video on this page and press Generate. The English subtitles are written first, then translated into French line by line, each keeping its timing. Make the video with French subtitles drawn in, or download the SRT.

Can I translate an Arabic video into French?

Yes. Arabic speech is recognised and the subtitles are translated into French. Check names before you download.

Will the accents show correctly in the video?

Yes. The caption fonts include é, è, à, ç and the other accented letters, so the subtitles drawn into the video look right.

Can I use the French subtitles on YouTube or in VLC?

Yes. Download the SRT and add it in YouTube Studio as French subtitles, or keep it next to the video with the same name and VLC loads it.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Only the audio is sent to be transcribed and only the text to be translated, and neither is kept. The video stays on your phone or computer.

How long can the video be?

Videos up to an hour are transcribed in Accurate mode, in a minute or two; longer ones on your device (slower), or in Accurate mode with ClipUtils Pro, up to 2 hours.
