How to remove an image background

How in-browser background removal works

This tool runs an image-segmentation neural network (ISNet) directly in your browser using WebAssembly, and WebGPU where available. The model separates the main subject from the background and produces a transparency mask.

Because inference happens on your device, your photo is never uploaded. The trade-off is a one-time model download (tens of megabytes) the first time you use the tool; after that it is cached and works quickly.

Automatic cutouts are excellent for clear subjects on distinct backgrounds. Very fine hair, transparent objects, or busy backgrounds can produce soft edges, the same limitation every automatic remover has.
