How to trim a video

  1. Select a video. Drop or choose a common video file such as MP4 or WebM.
  2. Preview and seek. Play the video and use Set start / Set end from the current playback position if you like.
  3. Choose start and end times. Enter times in seconds (decimals allowed) and confirm the selected duration.
  4. Pick Fast or Accurate trim. Fast trim avoids re-encoding; Accurate re-encodes for tighter cut points.
  5. Trim and download. Click Trim Video, preview the result, then download the trimmed file.

Fast vs accurate video trimming

Fast trim (default): keeps original quality, avoids re-encoding, finishes quickly on typical clips. Cut points may align to keyframes rather than exact timestamps.

Accurate trim: re-encodes with H.264 and AAC into MP4 for more precise start/end times. Expect longer processing—comparable in cost to other full re-encodes in the browser.

Choose Fast when you need a quick cut and can accept slight timing variance. Choose Accurate when the exact moment matters more than speed.

How browser-based video trimming works

Fast trim seeks to your range and remuxes streams with copy mode when the container and codecs allow. That is usually much faster than re-encoding.

Video frames are stored relative to keyframes. Stream-copy cuts often start at the nearest keyframe, so the first frame may be slightly before or after the time you typed.

Accurate trim decodes and re-encodes the selected segment so the boundaries match your times more closely, similar to other browser re-encode tools.

How do I trim a video?

Select a video, set start and end times (optionally from the player position), choose Fast or Accurate trim, click Trim Video, then download the result.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Your video is not uploaded to our servers for trimming. Processing happens in your browser. Normal page assets still load over the network.

Does trimming reduce video quality?

Fast trim uses stream copy and keeps the original encoded quality when successful. Accurate trim re-encodes, which can change quality slightly while aiming for precise cuts.

Why might Fast trim start slightly before or after my selected time?

Stream-copy cuts usually begin at keyframes. The player shows continuous time, but the compressed stream may only restart cleanly at keyframe positions, so Fast trim can shift a little.

What is the difference between Fast and Accurate trim?

Fast trim remuxes without re-encoding (fast, original quality, keyframe-aligned). Accurate trim re-encodes H.264/AAC MP4 for closer start/end accuracy and takes longer.

Can I trim MP4 files?

Yes. MP4 is a primary format. Fast trim typically keeps MP4; Accurate trim always outputs MP4.
