FFmpeg in WebAssembly seeks to your start point, decodes only the selected part and re-encodes it at 192 kbps. Re-encoding makes the cut accurate to the sample, instead of snapping to the nearest block the way copying would.
With fading on, the first and last 1.5 seconds ramp in and out, so the clip doesn't start or stop abruptly. That matters most for ringtones and for clips cut from the middle of a song.
