How muting works

A video file holds separate video and audio streams. This tool copies the video stream into a new file of the same format and leaves the audio out. Because the video isn't decoded or re-encoded, quality is bit-for-bit identical and the job is fast.

The new file is roughly the size of the video stream, so it is a little smaller than the original. Files up to 500 MB work on a computer and 250 MB on a phone.

No. Processing runs in your browser with a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg. Your file is read from your device and the result is saved back to it.

Does removing audio reduce video quality?

No. The video is copied without re-encoding, so the picture is identical to the original.

Can I replace the audio with music?
