Where OGG files come from
OGG is an open container that usually holds Vorbis (common for music, game sound effects and some podcasts) or Opus (used for voice messages, including Telegram's .ogg voice notes and older WhatsApp exports). Firefox and Android recorders also save .ogg files.
Windows Media Player, iTunes, many car stereos, older phones and upload forms don't play OGG. MP3 works everywhere.
What happens to your OGG
FFmpeg in WebAssembly decodes the Vorbis, Opus or FLAC audio inside the OGG file and encodes it with the LAME MP3 encoder. Tags such as title and artist are copied.
OGG to MP3 is a lossy re-encode, so use a slightly higher bitrate than the source if you care about music quality: 192 kbps is safe for most files.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser with a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg. Your file is read from your device and the result is saved back to it; nothing is sent to our servers.
How do I convert a Telegram voice message?
Save the voice message to your device (on desktop, right-click it and choose Save As), then pick the .ogg file here. Choose 128 kbps for speech.
What's the difference between OGG and Opus?
OGG is the container; Vorbis and Opus are codecs that can be inside it. This tool reads both, whatever the file extension.
Which bitrate should I pick?
192 kbps (High) sounds transparent for most music and is the default. 128 kbps is plenty for speech such as lectures and voice notes. 320 kbps only helps if the source audio is already high quality; it cannot add detail that isn't there.
How large a file can I convert?
Files up to 4 GB and 4 hours long on a computer, or 2 GB and 2 hours on a phone. The video is read in pieces rather than loaded into memory, so large recordings work; only the audio file being written has to fit in memory.
Can I convert game audio files?
Yes, if they're ordinary .ogg files. Audio packed inside a game's own archive formats has to be extracted with other tools first.
