How to resize an image to 100 KB

Why 100 KB is the most common upload limit
100 KB is the default ceiling on a huge number of job application and government portals. It is generous enough for a good quality photograph or document image, while still being small enough that a portal can store millions of them cheaply.
This is the most forgiving of the common limits. A typical phone photo is 2 to 5 MB, but most images keep their full resolution at 100 KB and simply get encoded at a lower quality, so the result usually still looks good at normal viewing size.
Only very large images, such as high resolution DSLR shots or long screenshots, need their resolution reduced to fit. When that happens the tool lowers the dimensions automatically, and only as far as it has to.
