Remove Background Music from a Video for YouTube (Keep the Voice)
Take the music out of your video before it goes on YouTube, and keep the speech. It runs in your browser: no upload, no watermark, no account.
Your file never leaves your device. How?
Your media is processed in your browser and is not uploaded to our servers for conversion. Page assets (including the converter engine) still load over the network.
Select or drop a video
MP4, MOV, WebM or a sound file. The music is removed on your device: nothing is uploaded.

Choose your video
Drop the exported video (MP4, MOV or WebM) from your computer.
Let the model download once
The first time, about 43 MB downloads and is saved in your browser for next time.
Remove the music
The voice is separated from the music on your computer. A 10-minute video takes several minutes; keep the tab open.
Upload the clean version
Download the video without music, then add music you have the rights to (YouTube's Audio Library, or your own with the Music Mixer).
Before upload, not after the claim
Vlogs, talks and street interviews often catch music playing in the background: a café's playlist, a car radio, a song in a shop. Taking it out before upload keeps the speech and avoids putting a copyrighted song in your video in the first place.
YouTube Studio also has an "Erase song" tool for videos that already got a claim. It works after upload and can take speech with it; this works before upload, on your own copy, and keeps the voice.
How it works
An MDX-Net model (from the open-source Ultimate Vocal Remover project) runs in your browser and splits the video's sound into the voice and everything else. The voice is put back in the video with FFmpeg: the picture is copied as it is, so it loses no quality.
Speech over music separates cleanly. Singing counts as voice, and sound effects go with the music. A voice buried in very loud music can keep a little of it.
Features
Before upload
Clean the video on your own computer before YouTube ever sees it.
Full quality
The picture is copied without re-encoding: no quality lost for the upload.
Voice and music apart
Download the voice and the music as separate MP3s for your editor too.
Music Mixer (Pro)
Turn the music down instead of off, let it dip whenever someone speaks, or put your own track under the voice, heard live as the video plays. Your first mix is free.
Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded?
No. Only the AI model is downloaded, once, from this site. The voice is separated from the music in your browser and the new video is made on your device.
Will this stop Content ID claims?
It removes the music it can hear, which usually leaves nothing to match. It's no guarantee: a faint trace or a claim on other parts of the video can still match. For music you add, use tracks you have the rights to.
Is this the same as YouTube's "Erase song"?
No. Erase song works in YouTube Studio after a claim, on the uploaded video. This works before upload on your own file, keeps the voice, and gives you the voice and the music as files.
Can I add YouTube Audio Library music under my voice?
Yes: download a track from the Audio Library, then use the Music Mixer's "Use my own music" (Pro, first mix free). It loops the track to the video's length and dips it whenever you speak.
How long can the video be?
Up to 15 minutes on a computer. For a longer video, cut out the part with music using Trim Video, clean it here, and put it back in your editor.
